1,183,371. Foam coatings. SCHOLL MFG. CO. Inc. 10 Feb., 1967 [15 Feb., 1966], No. 6447/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] Thermoplastic foamed materials, deformable and weldable by heat or high frequency, produced by mixing comminuted expanded particles of cellular organic non-thermoplastic or thermoplastic materials or mixtures thereof, with thermoplastic synthetic materials in the foam of aqueous dispersions, emulsions, pastes or plastisols with or without one or more plastic ciser, and converting the mixture into web form and solidifying it by setting and/or drying, are coated on to a web of profiled or patterned metal foil, paper or silicone rubber by passing the thermoplastic foamed materials, in the course of their conversion into web form, between two rotating and mutually adjustable and heatable conveyor belts, the lower one of which supports a layer of the material to be coated, thus causing the thermoplastic foamed material to be applied on to the web, which is removed from the end of the conveyor belt by a reeling device. The cellular organic materials are foamed rigid or elastic materials with a macrocellular structure. The thermoplastic synthetic material is, for example, polyvinyl chloride. A second, similar web may additionally be arranged to travel under the upper conveyor belt, thus causing composite material to be produced.
|
