The element esp. for roofing of industrial cold stores has a length, width and height of about 20m, 1.25m and 0.5m respectively and a coefficient of thermal conduction of ca 0.1. The element consists of a prestressed concrete bottom slab joined by a series of longitudinal triangular lattices to a reinforced concrete top slab, the space between the slabs being filled with a thermal insulator such as phenolic resin or polyurethane foam. Each lattice is formed from an extruded metal tube, the lattices being connected at each corner to longitudinal and transverse bars in the slabs. The corners are cast into the slabs thus giving good anchorage and lateral stability.
