The device for splitting of wooden tree trunks or logs, comprises a metal cone (10), downwardly directed, and supported by a moving frame (1) with an external winch drive system. The cone (10) itself has a sharp point (12) or cutter blade edge which is downward directed. The region of the cone (10) near the top (12) is at least of twin section construction so that the power driven cone (10) which is bought into contact with the tree trunk or log to be split operates through a combination of rotary and wedge actions.
