1497696 Winding coils PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 Dec 1975 [6 Dec 1974] 49631/75 Heading B3A An apparatus for winding a saddle-shaped deflection coil for a picture display tube, in which the turns of the coil are distributed over a number of electrically series-connected sections which are separated by spaces in the coil over a part of the length of the coil, includes a coil shaping winding mandrel movable through positions I, II, III, with a rotatable coil winding arm 34 at position I, wherein mandril part 6 carries a number of pins 16 insertable through apertures 17 into the winding space (10) (Fig. 3, not shown). Each pin 16 is connected to a piston 15 in a cylinder 14, spaces 20 in cylinders 14 communicating through tubes 21 to separate ducts 24 in block 25, spaces 22 in cylinders 14 communicating through ducts 23 and duct 26 with a common duct 27 in block 25, all ducts 24, 27 opening out of surface 28 of block 25. In winding position I, opposite block 25 across a gap equal to the thickness of a wire and through which the wire passes as the coil is wound is a block 29 containing separate ducts 241 opposite ducts 24 in block 25 and through which compressed air is blown, from pipes 31, controller 32 and pipe 33, the compressed air passing through ducts 241 across the gap into ducts 24 to lower pins 16 in sequence into the winding space (10). At position II, the coil is baked and at position III block 25 comes opposite a block 35 having a duct 36, and compressed air is blown from controller 32 through tube 261 and duct 36 across the gap and into duct 27 to raise pins 16 so that the coil can be removed. Members 11 and 12 are wire guides.
