Nitrification, Fe-removal and Mn-removal of waters is achieved by controlled introduction of H2O2 to inflow of a biological packed bed reactor or packed bed. Process covers total chemical O2 requirement and biochemical O2 requirement of chemolithotrophic autotrophic bacteria, e.g., Nitrosomonas, Nitrobacter and Ferrobacillus. Process is useful for treating NH3-contg. waste waters, in waste-water purification, drinking- and industrial -water processing. Controlled H2O2 addn. can cover O2 requirement of autotrophic bacteria. O2 requirement of bacteria is covered without interference in parallel processes. Discharge of suspended matter is improved. Suspended matter was reduced from 5.3 to 3.9 mg./l. by incorporating an H2O2 aerobic filter. In nitrifying of NH3, NH3 concn. of waste water was reduced from 12.6 to 2.2 mg./l. at 3.76 m/hr. in a sand filter 0.8 m. high, at 11.7 degrees C. |
