The staircase steps have support bars passing through them, the bars for one step and the next being linked by rotatable end connecting pieces. Threaded holes at their projecting ends receive connecting bars. The holes in the connecting pieces (6) are extended to a slot shape (7), with longitudinal axis (8) across the support bar (2) line, and with the centre outside the support bar axis. A plastics cap (13) may be fitted above this part, extending between the fitting surfaces of the connecting piece and connecting bar.
