The control system for a woodworking machine comprises a symmetrical arrangement which has two chain wheels (10, 20) attached to similar axles (12, 22) with geared couplings (12, 22) linked to a pair of driving motors (13, 23). The rotary speeds are measured by tachometers (14, 24) which deliver actual speed values to comparators (16, 26). The comparators are controlled by a specified value setting unit (31) containing a potentiometer. Output from the comparators goes through amplifier (17, 27) to servo-valves (15, 25) which regulate the motors. Absolute speed valve sensors (18/28) feed signals to a position comparator (32) and a D/A converter (38) which returns correction values to the comparators (16/26).
