<p>1497450 Cushions STOREY BROS & CO Ltd 25 Nov 1975 [9 Sept 1975] 48422/75 Addition to 1458664 Heading A4M [Also in Division B5] A method of making a resilient fabric-faced upholstered item comprises vacuum forming at at least 150‹C a cover from a laminate of a cast plasticized P.V.C. homo- or co-polymer and a knitted fabric and then casting a foam e.g. polyurethane in situ within the cover, the P.V.C. sheet containing at least 35 parts by weight of plasticizer per 100 parts by weight of resin and the fabric having an extensibility of at least 25% under a load of 5 1b per 2 inch wide strip in two directions at right angles. The P.V. C. layer may be foamed and/or non-foamed, may have a thickness of 20-2000Á and may comprise co-polymerizable monomers such as vinyl acetate or vinylidene chloride. The plasticizer may comprise di-octylphthalate dioctyl sebacate or tricresyl phosphate. The fabric may be a weft knitted fabric formed from or in combination with a highly crimped yarn .e.g. nylon 66. The cover may be shaped in a male or female mould using bubble blowing or plug assist vacuum forming. Car back-rests and cushions may be produced.</p> |
