1497844 Endless track vehicles CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 11 June 1976 [3 Oct 1975] 24348/76 Heading B7H A roller for supporting the upper run of the track of an endless track vehicle comprises a hub 31 and a rim assembly 30 including a pair of rims 45, 46 which are made up of resilient segments 48 to reduce noise generated by running engagement between the roller and the track. Each segment 48 is made of rubber mixed with chopped reinforcing fibres or in a laminated structure made of layers of fabric woven from steel, glass or plastics fibres and impregnated with rubber. Steel bands 49 pass through openings 50 in the segments 48 to hold the segments together. Guide members 40, 41 mounted on the hub 31 between the rims 45, 46 have flanges 43 which provide lateral guidance for track links 23. Retaining members 51, 52 are detachably bolted to the hub 31 to clamp the rims 45, 46 between the retaining members and the guide members 40, 41. The invention may also be applied to an idler wheel or to a track roller which engages the lower run of the track. |
