1497852 Controlling winches; interlocking arrangements CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 28 April 1976 [11 July 1975] 17246/76 Heading B8B A control system for a winch cable drum 12 on a construction vehicle comprises a first control arrangement actuable by a lever 31 for selectively connecting the drum to a drive means in one of several modes and a second control arrangement actuable by a lever 54 for selectively actuating a disconnect clutch in the drive system, a retaining plate associated with the lever 54 preventing actuation of the lever 31 when the second control arrangement is actuated to interrupt the drive system. A power take-off shaft 13 from the vehicle drives the winch drum through a normally disengaged input clutch 14, gearing 15, 16, 18, one or other of two winch clutches depending on the direction of drum drive required and the normally engaged disconnect clutch. The control lever 31 on the vehicle operator platform may be moved in a gate between a neutral position in which the input clutch 14 is disengaged and the two winch clutches are engaged, a reel-out position in which the input clutch 14 is engaged with one winch clutch engaged and the other disengaged, a reel-in position in which the input clutch 14 is engaged with the one winch clutch disengaged and the other engaged, and a free-spool position in which the input and winch clutches are all disengaged allowing the drum to rotate freely. The retaining plate, movable upon actuation of the lever 54, is so shaped that it engages the lever 31 preventing complete movement of the lever 54 if the lever 31 is in its reel-in or reel-out position whereby the disconnect clutch cannot be disengaged. If the lever 31 is in its neutral or free spool position the lever 31 is respectively pushed into or held in its free spool position by the retaining plate once operated by the lever 31 operated to disengage the disconnect clutch. Both levers 31 and 54 are connected to linkages and cable which operate hydraulic spool valve for controlling the clutches. |
