1504234 Transporting solids in liquid AMERICAN MINECHEM CORP 2 July 1976 [3 July 1975] 27723/76 Heading F1R [Also in Division B2] A method of transporting coal comprises dispersing fine particles of coal and ash in water to form an aqueous slurry; agitating the aqueous slurry with a liquid lyophobic to water and ash and lyophilic to coal to agglomerate the fine particles of coal; separating the agglomerated, coal particles, dispersing the separated, agglomerated, coal particles in a carrier liquid to form a transport slurry; pumping a stream of the transport slurry to transport the coal; and thereafter separating the agglomerated, coal particles from the transport slurry. The agglomerating liquid is preferably light oil, fuel oil, kerosene, creosote, filtered anthracene oil, hydrogenated filtered anthracene oil, lubricating oil or chlorinated biphenyls, and the carrier liquid is preferably petroleum or water. A binder liquid, e.g. heavy hydrocarbons, may be agitated with the agglomerated coal particles, which have been separated from the transport slurry to form pellets. |
