PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone terminal equipment which can be made to ring an incoming sound from an ordinary telephone terminal when the terminal equipment is lost or left while the incoming sound ringing switch of the equipment is turned off and a method for ringing the incoming sound. SOLUTION: This potable telephone terminal equipment is provided with a called sate detecting means 12 which detects the called state of the equipment caused by an incoming call from another portable telephone terminal equipment, an incoming sound ringing switch 14 which rings an incoming sound in accordance with the radio data inputted form a radio section 10, and a memory 18 which stores the code number which is required at the time of making automatic answering, the time required until the automatic answering is started after the incoming call arrives, and the state of the switch 14. The terminal equipment is also provided with an automatic answering means 22 to which the start and end of the called state detected by means of the detecting means 12 are informed and which discriminates where or not the automatic answering is required, acquires the code number of a caller by informing the caller of the automatic answering, and rewrites the switching of the switch 14 stored in the memory 18.
