PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the definition of a display by eliminating an erroneous displaying function due to a difference in the storage of wall electric charge. SOLUTION: Addressing of discharge cells is performed by individually supplying voltage to individual electrodes 207a to 207c, 208a to 208c provided on the respective discharge cells. Voltage is impressed on three pairs of individual electrodes, 207a and 208a, 207b and 208b, and 207c and 208b, via three pins 209a to 209c for individual electrodes. Selection of an individual electrode of each pair is performed by means of two common electrodes 203, 206 independent of each other.
