PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing thermoelectric material by which quenched foil powder containing crystals having a high orientation can be formed. SOLUTION: In a thermoelectric material manufacturing method, a thermoelectric material is manufactured, in such a way that quenched foil 5 is first manufactured by a liquid quenching method with which the foil 5 is manufactured, by injecting a molten raw material 3 from a molten-liquid injecting nozzle 2 upon a cooling roll 1, and after the foil 5 is pulverized as is, the pulverized product is compression-molded. The raw material contains at least one kind of element selected from among a group composed of Bi and Sb and at least one kind of element selected from among a group composed of Te and Se. An injecting temperature TL of the molten raw material 3 and the rotating speed of the cooling roll 1 are respectively set with conditions at 600-1,100 deg.C and 2-80 m/sec, and the temperature TL falls between (20R+46,760)/78 and (100R+77,800)/78.
