The high effect hovercraft has profiled wings (11) set about the skirt of the craft and has the airstream from the central thruster (18) deflected over the angled wings to achieve lift. The craft lies higher than a conventional air cushion in a controlled way. The lift is achieved without having a high airspeed, and can be generated by different types of impeller, including radial types, or jets. The control of the wing angles provides different lift, while differential control generates horizontal, thrust.
