<p>Tunnel kiln for firing ceramics, consisting of vertical side walls of refractory material between which are at least two interior walls of refractory material with pillars joined at the top to supporting beams, the flues being delimited by one of the side walls and the adjacent inner wall, and a refractory roof carried at its ends by the supporting beams. The roof is covered with a layer of thermally insulating ceramic fibres of low density, e.g. of SiO2 and Al2O3, esp. 'Feberfrax' (RTM). The design avoids having two or more heavy suspended roof layers one above the other, while ensuring good thermal insulation of the furnace. Hence the supporting beams pillars and walls can be capable of supporting less weight.</p> |
