<p>Aq. liquids are purified from various undesirable materials which can be caused to flocculate by passage through an electric field. This effected a vertical column with an upwards flow, the resulting slurry being taken from the top. The liq. only passes through the electric field in the lower half of the vessel pref. the lower quarter. A separate flow in the opposite direction is maintained at a height less than the total vessel height but higher than the treatment zone. The liq. can be led through a serpentine speed path of large amplitude through a series of treatment zones consisting of upwards flow passages in an electric field. The liquid flows upwards with a velocity significantly below that of the bubbles formed electrolysis and riseing from the electrodes. The process helps to create a system which is very effective for purification but which gives considerably savings in both construction and operating costs c.f. existing plants.</p> |
