1496967 Coated polyester films IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 Sept 1976 [10 June 1975] 24800/75 Heading B2E A coated film assembly comprises a support film of a linear polyester, e.g. biaxially oriented and heat set polyethylene terephthalate, with a priming layer of a partial or complete salt of polyacrylic or polymethacrylic acid homo- or copolymers which priming layer has been crosslinked, e.g. with an epoxy resin, an alkyd resin or a condensation product of melamine with formaldehyde together with a hydrophilic resinous layer applied to the priming layer. The salt is preferably a sodium or ammonium salt and the polymer may include comonomers, e.g. methyl, ethyl, propyl and butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate. Preferred priming polymers are a terpolymer of acrylic acid, methyl acylate and methyl methacrylate or a bi - copolymer of acrylic acid and methyl acrylate. The priming layer may be applied to a polyester film treated by corona discharge in aqueous dispersion. Many suitable second coatings are specified, e.g. partially hydrolysed vinyl acetate polymers or copolymers which may be diazo sensitised and gelatin. |
