Stabilising dehydrogenases, esp. alcohol dehydrogenase - by contact with aq. soln. contg. phosphate buffer, albumin, glycine and cysteine

Stabilisation of dehydrogenases is improved by adding cystein, in addn. to phosphate buffer, albumin and glycine, to the treatment soln. coming into contact with the dehydrogenase. Dehydrogenases are used in biochemical esp. quantitative-analytical processes. Thus, EtOH in blood or urine can be estimated quantitatively by adding alcohol-dehydrogenase, as catalysing enzyme, and nicotinamide-adenine-dinucleotide as coenzyme. Cystein addn. improves stabilisation to an extent such that aq. solns. of the dehydrogenases can be stored for longer periods or that the dehydrogenases can be used in carrier-bonded condition.
