1496904 Cutting apparatus R A JONES & CO Inc 12 Dec 1974 [26 Dec 1973] 49502/75 Divided out of 1496903 Heading B4B [Also in Division B3] A cutting die comprises a die surface 35, and a plurality of cutting edges 36 extending outwardly from the surface to define a shape to be cut from a workpiece, each cutting edge having its ends curved inwardly towards the shape, each curved end being spaced from that of an adjacent cutting edge and having an internal radius of 0À006 to 0À015 inches. Fig. 3 shows a rotary cutting die 12 which co-operates with a plain roller (not shown) to partially cut square shapes in a web of paper or plastics, leaving the squares attached to the rest of the web by tapered bridge pieces, for subsequent removal in a labelling machine. Fig. 9 is a detailed view of the curved ends 63, 64 on adjacent outwardly tapering cutting lands 61, 62, formed by electrical discharge machining. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the curved ends are formed by V-shaped indentation at 45 of a continuous land 37. |
