The driverless trolley has a braking system designed to avoid the sharp braking action often associated with tractor vehicles without trailers or without a load. The trailer coupling (9) is mounted rigidly on the end of a chassis part (10) which can move horizontally against the action of restoring compression springs (14, 15) in order to operate a brake on at least one trolley wheel. A brake actuator (21) is positioned between the trolley section (1) esp. the vehicle frame, and the linearly movable chassis part (10). Where pneumatic or hydraulic brakes are fitted the brake actuator has a power cylinder (22, 23) coupled by a brake line (24, 25) to the wheel brake cylinder (27) for electric wheel brakes, the actuator comprises a potentiometer in the circuit for the brak servomotor.
