Coupling for damping torsional vibration by friction - has alternate driving and driven plates separated by high viscosity grease

The turbo-generator for rail applications has the turbine connected to the generator by a coupling permitting slip to damp out torsional vibration. The coupling has an inner and an outer sleeve (16, 17) secured respectively to the turbine and the generator shafts. An axial array of annular sheet metal plates (18, 19) is arranged between the sleeves, and the plates are connected alternately to the respective sleeves in axially slideable manner. The plates are pressed together by tension bolts (25) extending through curved slots in the plates. Torsional sliding between the plates is facilitated by the maintenance between them of layers of high viscosity grease.
