The internal combustion engine has helical guide faces, and combined reciprocating and rotating piston and it is suitable for any kind of application in which either rotating or oscillating forces or their combinations are required. The engine has a fixed or rotating enclosing element with cylindrical inner wall and two inside side walls. Between these side walls are arranged at right angles to the rotation axis wall configurations with alternating left hand and right hand helical sections. A fixed or rotating piston has wall with configuration matching that of the inside wall. The piston width is slightly smaller than the shortest distance between opposite inside wall points. A shaft is connected to this piston which rotates in bearing.
