<p>1497280 Flocculating aqueous suspensions ASSOCIATED PORTLAND CEMENT MFRS Ltd 2 Dec 1975 [10 Dec 1974] 53309/74 Heading C1C [Also in Division D2] An aqueous system containing suspended particulate matter (e.g. mineral fillers used in papermaking) is treated to agglomerate the suspended matter, by adding an anionic polymeric flocculant and at least one counteracting anionic deflocculant, the activity of the latter being reduced by adding to the system an aqueous solution containing cations having a valency greater than 1. The agglomerates so obtained are re-used in papermaking. Sewage may also be treated. The mineral filler may be TiO 2 , CaCO 3 or clay. Specified flocculants are polyacrylamides. Specified deflocculants are polyacrylates, polyphosphates, carboxylated polyphosphates, silicates and alkali-solubilized lactic casein. Specified cation-containing solutions are hard water or aqueous solutions of Ca or Mg salts.</p> |
