Treating fur and leather in organic solvents - contg. anionic, cationic or nonionic emulsifiers, to improve softness and strength

In Parent Patent, softness, suppleness and tear-strength of fur and leather are improved by treating the moist materials in water-insoluble dry-cleaning solvents contg. a mixt. of hydrophilic detergent and di- or polyhydric alcohols or derivs. According to present modification, furs and leather contg. 40-80% water are treated 5-30 min. in water-insoluble solvents contg. 5-100 g/l anionic, cationic or nonionic emulsifiers. Treatment takes place in machinery for dry-cleaning and degreasing fur and leather. Effects are permanent. Emulsifiers have good affinity to the protein fibre and are not washed out on further processing in aq. media.
