The numbering or coding attachment for offset printing machine has a housing (22) enclosing an armature (71) and solenoid (68). A shaft (73) fixed to the lower end of the armature extends from the bottom of the housing and can be intermittently moved up and down by the solenoid. A printing head is attached to the shaft free end. The printing head incorporates several printing rollers and an advancing unit for successive rotation of the rollers after each to-and-fro movement. The complete unit is designed as an attachment to existing printing, folding or collating machines and is movably mounted on a rail (26).
