PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To illuminate an object to be analyzed with a cone of light, having a relatively small angle of incidence and covering 360 deg. or one or more arc segments centering a part, where the object is present in a method and a system which are appropriate to be used together with an automatic vision system adopting an image-sensing device. SOLUTION: A light from the multi-color ring light source is directed to a curved parabolic face on a light collector ring which substantially condenses the light, fans the light outward radially toward a reflector face on an angle- generating encompassing ring. The relative position of the reflector face determines the angle of incidence of the cone of light formed into a region of the object. Features of the object are thus illuminated with an optimum efficiency. In order to change the angle of incidence while maintaining a focal point, a differential drive mechanism moves the light collector ring and the angle-generating ring concurrently differentially. A color and a density of the light illuminating the object can be selected and controlled by a program which runs a controller.
