Blood-compatible plastic surfaces are obtd. by coating the plastic surface with a mixt. of (a) a quaternary ammonium salt contg. >=1 carboxyl gp./sodium heparinate complex and (b) the same polymer or other polymer compatible with the plastic, in a suitable organic solvent soln. Used in plastic components used in medicine and surgery. The complexant is obtd. from cheap starting materials.
