An automatic search facility is provided for the location of a specific word within a text stored on magnetic tape or film. The information cassette is loaded into a reader on a keyboard unit and an entry made to identify the language of the text. The tape is scanned and the output compared with the identifying word entered through the keyboard. The tape drive is stopped when the comparator generates an identifying output.
