Box structure for motor vehicle body - has panels with confronting half round recesses forming bolt holes

The box structure is esp. for a motor vehicle body. A wall is formed by a pair of sheet metal panels (2, 7) having respective half-round recesses which between them form a clearance hole for a bolt. The panels have flanges which cover the ends of the hole and are joined together by welding. The panels form one side of a box structure whose opposite side may be formed by a similar pair (3, 8) of panels. The box is completed by welding further panels across the first panels. Bolt holes are drilled through the further panels, in alignment with the clearance holes, after welding.
