The tilting ashtray, particularly for a vehicle, has a trough shaped ash container (1) which has a vertical front plate and an open top, and which is pulled forwards to swing about a horizontal pivot axis (5) underneath to deposit ash in the top. This pivot axis can be supplied by a rod (5) which is supported by a leaf spring (7) so that it can be completely removed by downwards pressure on the spring. - The spring can be attached to the holder (2) by suitable fastenings (8), or the spring can be integral with the holder, projecting forwards from it. The leaf spring terminates in a groove to act as a support for the rod, allowing it to rotate.
