1385600 Deflavouring seeds PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 30 Oct 1973 [30 Oct 1972 (2)] 50354/73 Heading A2Q Oil-seed materials, e.g. soya, rapeseed, copra and cotton seed, which contain 0-16% of water are deflavoured by (a) contacting them with a 3-component single phase solvent consisting of (i) 30-90% of a C 5-12 hydrocarbon having a b.p. below 200‹C, (ii) 9.9-65% of a C 1-12 polar oxygen-containing organic solvent and (iii) water at a temperature between 0‹C and the b.p. of the system and (b) removing the solvent. The seed material may be soya flake defatted by percolation of hexane, soya concentrate, soya isolate, soya meal or soya flour. The hydrocarbon may be hexane or cyclohexane. The polar solvent may be ethanol, or an ether, ester, aldehyde or ketone. After contact with the 3-component solvent the seed may be further treated with aqueous methanol, ethanol, n-propanol or isopropanol at 0-80‹C. |
