PURPOSE: A device and a method for emergently starting an automatic transmission vehicle are provided to prevent the loss of time and cost due to repair by immediately starting an engine by operating an emergent start switch. CONSTITUTION: A device for emergently starting an automatic transmission vehicle comprises a key switch state detecting unit(10) to detect on/off states of a key switch as an electrical signal; a parking brake state detecting unit(2) to detect the operation of a parking brake as an electrical signal; a main brake state detecting unit(3) to detect the operation of a main brake as an electrical signal; a shift lever state detecting unit(4) to detect in which range a shift lever is placed as an electrical signal; a throttle valve state detecting unit(5) to detect the opening/closing of a throttle valve as an electrical signal; an emergent start switch state detecting unit(6) to detect on/off states of an emergent start switch as an electrical signal; an engine rpm detecting unit(7) to detect the present engine rpm as an electrical signal; a traveling speed detecting unit(8) to detect the present traveling speed of a vehicle as an electrical signal; a control unit(9) to start an engine by operating a lockup piston(11) until engine rpm reaches a specific grade; a lockup piston driving unit(10) to selectively operate the lockup piston; and an engine rpm control unit(12) to control engine rpm in response to the output signal of the control unit.
