The compressor consists of two pistons on either end of a rod with the motor in the centre part between them. The oscillations of the motor are synchronous with the mains. It has springs forming a mechanical oscillating system whose resonant frequency corresponds to the motor mains frequency. Means respond to the amplitude of mechanical oscillations and change the natural frequency of the system, so that it increases when the oscillation amplitude rises, and decreases with falling amplitude. The pistons compress air alternately, and the cylinder heads have the type of valves used in normal air compressor practice.
