1496564 Vacuum cleaners; cleaning curtains and upholstery J F A BRYEN and A R NORMAN [trading as ALAN NORMAN & ASSOCIATES] 22 June 1976 [8 April 1975] 14455/75 Heading A4F [Also in Division D1] Apparatus for cleaning furnishing fabrics, e.g. curtains, in situ comprises a tank 8 for cleaning fluid (dry-cleaning or detergent liquid) connected via a supply pump 9 to a spray jet 19 on a cleaning head 20 which also includes a suction nozzle 29 connected to a suction pump 10 for drawing off vapour and soil from the fabric, the suction at the nozzle 29 and the pressure at the jet 19 both being adjustable for use with different fabrics. Pump 9 is a gear pump having a recirculating circuit 23 from which fluid may be diverted by operating a trigger control 21. The pressure may be controlled by a valve 24 or by thyristor control of the pump motor. Pump 10 is an impeller pump to whose inlet a filter unit 11 with a drainable tank is attached to trap solids and liquids, vapour being discharged by a hose 32. The suction level is controlled by adjusting the speed of the pump motor. Vacuum and fluid-pressure gauges 41, 43 are provided. The jet 19 gives a flat V-shaped spray and nozzle 29 has a flared channel shape open towards the spray jet to minimize dispersion of solvent in the atmosphere. |
