1496289 2 - Amino - 3,5 - dinitrobenzamide BASF AG 5 May 1975 [8 May 1974] 18650/75 Heading C2C 2 - Amino - 3,5 - dinitrobenzamide is prepared by, in a first step, nitrating isatoic anhydride with nitric acid and oleum in a ratio of 0À5 to 20 moles of SO 3 per mole of nitric acid in the presence of an organic solvent at from - 20‹ to + 80‹ C., and in a second step reacting the acid phase of the two-phase reaction mixture formed during the nitration with ammonia. The process is preferably carried out in the presence of 10 to 100 % by weight of urea, based on isatoic anhydride, as a nitration catalyst.
