<p>The mono-piece substructure of ribbed plastic material is for use on furniture pieces e.g. chairs, beds or benches, and is made by the thermal deformation of a plane sheet. The substructure is eventually upholstered with fabric-lined foam and may be of polystyrene. The substructure may be a pedestal base for a furniture piece or may comprise an integral chair seat and back-rest. In the latter form the unit may have a seat of shallow square inverted tray form with externally curved returned edges, and an integral back-rest of inverted 'U' form in vertical cross section. The stiffening ribs traverse the seat and align vertically on both faces of the back-rest.</p> |
