<p>1496550 Conditioning sewage sludge STERLING DRUG Inc 19 June 1975 [5 July 1974 21 April 1975] 26171/75 Heading CIC Sewage sludge is conditioned by heating to at least 65‹ C. for a sufficient time to kill pathogenic organisms and plant seeds and to degrade organic matter to more readily digestible substances but not to excessively decrease the water-holding characteristics of the sludge, and then the resulting sterilized sewage sludge is treated by biological digestion (aerobic or anaerobic) at 32‹ to 60‹ C. The sewage sludge may then be disposed of on land by distributing at a load rate of less than 300 pounds of nitrogen per acre per year, and is devoid of undesirable micro-organisms and reduced in septic and odour-producing properties.</p> |
