The sectional demountable furniture has a standard range of components embracing lateral panels, tubular transverse bars and bolts canvas panels, upholstery panels, and horizontal panels for making various articles of furniture. The transverse bars (27) stabilise the lateral panels and are fixed by threaded dowels (36) engaging panels holes (23a) and bar (27) ends. The upholstering panels have Velcro (R.T.M.) fasteners (45c) securing them to canvas panels (39b) which are secured by threading edge sleeves (41b) over selected transverse bars (27). The lateral panels may be of timber and have a staggered arrangement of bar holes along the horizontal edges. A chair may comprise two side panels (21b) tied by four timber bars (27) and two bolts (36). Each bolt (35) acts with an adjacent bar (27) to support an inclined solid back panel (46b). The back panel (46b) and the upper bars (27) support an upholstery panel (44b) on a canvas panel (39b).
