<p>The dingible balloon has an envelope (2) fitted with a tail fin (4), elevators (6), a rudder (8) and a propulsion motor (10) and is filled with a quantity of gas such that at cruising height the uplife would be equal to the weight of the load (11). For the operations of take-off and landing at least one helicopter is attached to support arms (12, 14) fitted at the ends of the balloon. The helicopter is used to provide either the lift or downwards force required. The temporary linkage between a helicopter and the balloon can be operated from either craft and consists of a universal joint.</p> |
