The bridge top surface insulation is made from a plastics sheet with a protection layer arranged directly below the road surfacing material layer. This protects the bridge structure against penetration of water with dissolved salt used in surface maintenance. The insulation is able to transmit shear forces generated by traffic loads to the bridge structure. The plastics sheet (2) is not adhesive bonded to the protection layer (3) on it nor to the bridge concrete (1) below, but is ribbed for transmission of shear forces between the road surface material and the bridge structure. The underside of the foil is also ribbed and it is not fully in contact with concrete, to form grooves for condensed water.
|
