Screw protection for outboard drive - has impact sensing shoe controlling hydraulic lifting ram via actuating switch

The outdrive is mounted with vertical adjustment on a vertical hydraulic ram (5). A rigid arm (9) is set in front of the screw with an angled bottom section (19) to monitor o structions. Any pressure on the arm initiates the vertical ram to lift the screw clear without damage. The angle bottom section can aid the lifting action. The actuating switch connected to the ram is electrically, pneumatically or hydraulically operated. Pref. an inductive or capacitive proximity switch is used. The system is more versatile than the conventional swing back control, in which safety shear bolts are broken and have to be replaced every time the drive is swung clear. The lifting monitor arms can be positioned in any angle about the screw to provide all round protection.
