Cold dyeing of polyamide carpets - by impregnating with an aq. bath contg. an acid dye and an aromatic polyglycol ether, rolling and storing wet

Polyamide carpets are cold dyed by (1) impregnating them at 80-350% pick up with an aq. bath contg. (a) acid dyes contg. only one sulphonic acid gp., (b) opt. basic or dispersion dyes, (c) 0.25-2.5% (on dye soln.) of polyglycol ethers of phenols or naphthols contg. sulphonic acid gps. and substd. by hydrocarbon gps., or formaldehyde reaction prods. of these and (d) opt. other auxiliary agents; (2) rolling the carpet up in the wet state and wrapping it to prevent drying out and (3) storing the carpet with rotation for 8-36 hours to complete the dyeing. The presence of the polyglycol esters prevents formation of the grey film observed in previous processes of this type.
