Beta-adrenergic blocking indole derivs. - prepd. e.g. by reacting (2,3)-epoxy-propoxy cpds. with amines

Indole derivs of formula (I) and their salts are new. In (I) A is alkylene; B is S or a direct bond; R1 is opt. branched lower alkyl; R2 is alkyl hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or pivoloyloxymethyl; and R3 is lower alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, pivaloyloxymethyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkoxycarbonyl, or a group -CONR4 R5 in which R4 and R5 are H or lower alkyl. (I) can therefore be used for the treatment or prophylaxis of cardiovascular disorders. Specific cpds. (I) include 4-(2-hydroxy-3-tert-butylaminopropoxy)-2-ethoxycarbonyl-6-methyli- ndole. In an example, this is prepd. by reacting 1.7 g 4-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-2-ethoxycarbonyl-6-methylindole 3 days at room temp. with 25 ml. tert-butylamine.
