Longitudinal edges of woven fabrics are joined together with an adhesive or thermowelding seam using a tape which is laid under the seam. Tape prevents egress of extruded adhesive or plastics material through the underside of the fabric. Pref. the flat fabric strip is folded into the tube and the overlapping edges are joined together at their interface using the extruded strip. The tape, which may be a plastic or a densely woven tape, is laid on the inner wall of the tube. Tape may be supplied from a storage roll.
