The reel (1) carries a coil (2) of spring wire which is fed through the straightening rollers (3) and pushed by the driving rollers (4) in between the coiling rollers (15). The coiling rollers are mounted on the sliding carriage (14) which can be driven forwards or backwards by the screwed rod (13) and electric motor (11). An electric motors mounted on the sliding carriage (10) drives the coiling rollers (15). When the required number of coils have been wound the coiling motor is stopped and the motor (11) is started. The shearing blade (9) which moves with the carriage (10) is actuated so that the wire can be cut without stopping the continuous feed of wire to the machine. The rate of production is thus increased.
