The breakage of a thread in a loom is detected and recorded by means of a laser emitting a constant beam of light. In the optical receiving instrument the beam of light 1 mm. in dia. is focussed to a point and between emitter and receiver the beam is divided into a number of, and at least two, part beams. One of these is projected throught the shed and the other is directed beneath the sheds. The response time to a thread breakage is 1 milli-second, so that a very fine thread under tension crossing the beam at high speed is detected and registered. The signal is stored in a sample an dhold circuit, which also feeds through an amplifier for the stopping of the machine. The mechanism is only released when the reset button for the sample and hold circuit is pressed. The monitored width can extend to 10 m. with accessories and with a thread smaller in dia. than 0.01 mm.
|
