Water-soluble polymers and process for producing the same

Water-soluble oxidation-reduction polymers containing therein recurring units of the formula (I): <IMAGE> (I) or recurring units of formula (II): <IMAGE> (II) wherein X represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an allyl group or an aryl group; R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; R2 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group; R3 represents a divalent group; and M represents a cation. These polymers have excellent oxidation-reduction properties.
