9-B-D-AURABINOFURANOSYL PURINE NUCLEOTIDES

The 9 beta-D-arabinofuranosylpurine nucleotides of the formula in which X and Y are defined in Claim 1, are prepared by deaminating corresponding 9 beta-D-arabinofuranosyladenine nucleotides in the presence of glacial acetic acid, water and sodium nitrite. These compounds can be converted into their ammonium, substituted ammonium or physiologically acceptable metal salts, in which case the alkali metal and alkaline earth metal salts are preferred. The said compounds, as well as their salts, can be used in vitro for controlling viruses, but they can also be used as starting compounds for the preparation of compounds which are employed for controlling viruses.
