1461224 Making active material containers TUDOR AB 24 March 1975 [9 April 1974] 12136/75 Heading H1B [Also in Division B5] A process for producing a sheath for a tubular electrode comprises continuously feeding to a mandrel a sheath material which consists of a fibrous material and another material which is capable of imparting shape stability to the tubular sheath, effecting a preliminary treatment of the sheath material on a first section of the mandrel to make the sheath material shapeable, passing the shapeable sheath material to a second section of the mandrel of different cross-section from that of the first section and treating the material so that it retains the crosssection of the second section of the mandrel. The shape stability imparting material may be a perforated plastics foil or film which is bonded or welded to the fibrous material and the preliminary treatment on the first section of the mandrel imparts plasticity to the foil so that it can be moulded. Alternatively the shape stability imparting material may be an impregnating agent, a solvent for which is evaporated when the sheath is on the first section of the mandrel and curing of the impregnating agent is initiated. On the second section of the mandrel the plastics foil is cooled to retain its shape or the complete drying and/or hardening of the impregnating agent takes place. |
